What is the name of long, thin aluminum strap that attaches to the 1/2" PEX about 1" or 2" below the subfloor?

    Ultra Fin?

They use a little "pigtail" that suspends the tube below the sufloor. They also use those louvered aluminum fins to wrap around the tube for some convection movement.

hmmm, i'll have to look up uf. convection? ok, i follow, but it doesn't sound like a great idea. and while my ff insulation hangs 2" below my tubes/'spread' convection, they are still in direct contact with my sub via al plates

    Ultra Fin / Thermofin

HR is of course right about ultra fin. It's a good product that has it's place, low loads in particular. It requires higher supply temps and if you already have them for another reason it's great. But... we like to keep temps as low as possible in most cases and to do that in under floor, thermofin or wirsbo or equivilaent thick plates that are secured directly to the subfloor are the way to go.
