The ONLY time I've ever seen that type of system...
was on a high temperature (250 degree F) hot water system in a hotel in downtown (Stouffers) Cincinatti. It was also, obviously , high pressure, which was critical to its safe operation. Instead of using compressed air, this system used bottle nitrogen to maintain the "bubble" for compression. I guess a person could do the same with compressed air, but would assume that there would be a significantly higher potential for corrosion (oxygen as opposed to nitrogen).
The high temp/pressure loop was confined to the mechanical room. There were "converters" that were used to generate medium temperature hot water to go to the hotel rooms F.C.U.s (160 degrees F).
Questions for you.
1. IS this a high temp/high pressure system?
2. Are there ANY air separators ANYWHERE in the hydronic loop?
3. Are the lines actually connected to an air compressor, or gas cylinder?
That is obviously not a residential system...
