It is the food industry. So when they do a washdown of the production lines and rooms, the boiler runs non stop for 5 hours or more!

    Abused DHW boiler

Here are a few pictures of an abused Raypak WH3 902 domestic hot water boiler. The client has been advised several years ago that he does not have sufficient hot water available with his increased production and new production lines. We have quoted him a condensing boiler several times. The first signs of trouble were in Oct 2007. In Dec 2007, we had a burn through. We rebuilt the unit in 2008. The other pictures are of yesterday. We are rebuilding the unit opnce more. The coil is on its last legs!

Hopefully the clien will now accept our proposition!

    Abused????

Looks more like NEGLECTED. Or "Deferred Maintenance" as the big C.E.O.'s like to refer to it.

The burners were melted down from reflected radiant energy from the clinkers on the heat exchanger.

I'm just guessing, but I'd bet that once its on, it STAYS on with no chance of a breather, or a cool down.

Does this guy understand that when this boiler goes down for the count that his production will be ZERO?

THis sounds like the perfect candidate for a drain waste heat recovery system. What is the nature of his business if you can tell us without compromising the client?

    Thanks for sharing.

    I see...

Hoser's cleaning up the kill floor eh... Been there, seen that, and it wasn't pretty either.

So, it won't cost him any down time, but I guarantee the USDA and or local health department would be interested in knowing of his issues...

This is how salmonella outbreaks happen.

    That is REAL ugly

    THanks for sharing.

    I bet

that boiler would peg the CO display on an analyzer.

Not sure I'd even want to touch it again since this is a recurring problem. Either the proper new equipment, or you walk.

Do they have much storage to speak of, I have done seafood

plants for washdown and they ran 3 to 4 3/4" hoses full bore for like 4hrs also. Man do they pump the water. The last piece of equipment was a Ludell direct fired hot water heater, I did not install but the unit is quite cool. If memory serves me, 2 million btus. Has about a 100 gallon tank in bottom and pumps to top of hopper with water cascading down hopper with all these stainless octagonal globes in hopper and fires vertically up into hopper. Just about 100% efficient as it fires right into water path. These were originally made for Dairies.
