shutting down steam supply to a building over the summer months.

I was told it is not a good idea to shut down the steam feed to a bldg.for the summer months because the high acidic condensate will eat threw the piping. If the water is treated at the boiler plant,is it better keep as much piping as possible hot or,does it make more sence to shut down as much as you can and save on steam generation?

    Your Steam Lines Will...

...most likely corrode from the outside in. There could be factors in your installation that I'm not aware of - local conditions are a HUGE factor in steam distribution systems - but my experience is that the corrosion you'll suffer will FAR outweigh any energy savings.

I'd leave the steam line hot.
