Did anyone see this interesting article about no-mix toilets?

the new green
when i visited the Bitish Virgin Islands, the public toilets had nice little hand-written signs....
if it's yellow..
let it mellow..
if it's brown..
flush it down...!

I used to follow that principle at my house
But using grey water doesn't smell and is much more sanitary. Grey water is the way to go.
Thanks, Bob Gagnon

Yes, I thought it was interesting. I'm familiar with the arguments against the flush toilet, also remembered the part about %80 of the nitrogen being in the urine, from my days as a compost freak.
Refreshing to see the NYT printing an opinion piece about human excrement. I like the part about getting guys to sit and how some people think that a man who sits on a toilet is a homosexual. I'v been trying to talk my son into considering this approach as his aims leave a lot to be desired!
What I didn't get or follow up on is where the urine goes and how its used. Not everyone has a cubic yard of organic material aerobically composting in their back yard to juice up.

In Bavaria last summer
most of the homes and public buildings had the two, eccentric push buttons for either pee-pee or poops. Mad Dog

I have that toilet
And a waterless urinal in my house, and they both work great and save a lot of water. The toilet is a Sterling/Kohler and the model is Rockland. It was about $200. and has not clogged yet.

Picture
Can you post a picture of it? Just curious.
Make sure you flush it 1st :-)0 -
Hasn't clogged yet?
Is that a challenge? ;-)0 -
using human excrement as fertilizer
is very old, and called night soil
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_soil
i have a septic system, and since i live in the woods/no neighbor close enough, 90% of the time i pee out in the 'yard' with the dogs. it saves well water0 -
Toilets
I think you are confusing a dual flush toilet with a no-mix toilet.
They are 2 different animals.0 -
Challenge
Some of my friends have taken it on as a challenge, and have given up. And some of my friends are heavy hitters, if ya know what I mean. I do have a dual flush, I never heard of the no mix, I'll have to check it out. Some of the Hard Core Tree Huggers I know use Urine for fertilizer, and swear by it.
