Can someone give me an intelligent estimate of how many commercial hot water closed loop heat boilers there are in NYC? There seems to be more steam boilers here than in the rest of the country. Is there an explanation for this?

One reason is the height of the buildings. No pumps for steam.0 -
All commercial boilers are supposed to be filed.
Check with the NYC DOB.

Hot water came in to popularity later. Also, you've got Con Ed with steam mains right in to the buildings...Mad Dog
