    Here is a drawing...

Here is a drawing straight out of the Burnham Independence line of steam boilers.

You definitely want to invest in a drop header. I am a home owner that got into a troubled install where the header the that was installed was all wrong. I did my research, and taught my installer how to do a drop header and what size pipes and their proper locations.

    Burnham I/O manuals

The Burnham Megasteam I/O manual, page 23, has a nice diagram w/ both regular and drop header (alternate piping), plus both regular Hartford loop (Tee, close nipple, & 90° Ell) and Burnham preferred (Wye, close nipple, & 45° Ell) Hartford loop.

Alternately, see their Independence I/O manual, page 17.

And here is a full view with hartford loop and equalizer

I realized you wanted one complete view. So I took the boiler manual pics into photoshop and glued the drawings together so you can have one complete view.

    boiler fill

one change i would make to that piping arrangement is to put the boiloer fill connection on the wet return, as far away as convienently possible, so as to avoid thermal shock, when filling with cold water.--nbc

Ok - I edited the drawing to move the cold water feed

Thats good advice to avoid shocking or cracking the cast iron. I edited the drawing and moved the cold water feed.
