York Gas Upflow Bulkhead \"Crack\"
Any thoughts on how you address the hairline cracks that appear on some old York upflow gas furnaces, such as P2UGD series, circa 1985. They appear as a "finger" that usually originates at one or more of the fasteners that hold the clamshell heat exchanger. They normally do not affect the combustion test but I would think that if it opened up it would have to eventually show up as a diluted O2 reading. Personally, I call them cracks and recommend furnace replacement. What is the general concensus??0 -
Crack kills, replacement only fix.

I have seen this same phenomenon. On a small percentage the cracks will open up and cause problems. I always advise new equipment. The units are over 20 years old. It's time.0
