Pensotti boiler question.

Check the chimney base.
Check to make sure the little vertical passages from the combustion area to the flue ways are clear.

  • This is my first encounter with the Pensotti boiler. The over fire draft is +.05(pegged on gauge)" w.c. Is that normal for this boiler? I believe it's a "pressure" type boiler; but haven't seen that high of pressure before. Also, do they normally have a barometric damper? This one does have one, with about -.05" w.c. in the flue pipe. Any comments would be appreciated. Thank you.

Just talking from memory here, but I think they can be positive over fire, but that sounds excessive. The biggest problem is a build up over time. Periodically, the burner needs to be pulled, the chamber vacuumed out, and the passages from the chamber up into the rest of the boiler have to be cleaned out. This is over looked quite often on these units.

    positive pressure

    see: http://www.pensotti-pna.com/manuals.htm

S-1 and Blueline series are positive pressure over fire, +0.02 to +0.07 depending on model and firing rate.

  • Thanks for your help. I checked out Pensotti's website and talked to their tech. support. I'm impressed with this boiler. One thing I like with new installs; the boiler is shipped without the jacket, and the jacket is installed after the boiler's in the basement. I wonder if Pensotti designed there's with the Buderus boiler in mind. They have a few of the same features.
