Gravity System - Circulator System- to Splitting zones

I looked at boiler replacement today. It was origanally a gravity system that had a circulator introduced to the system years ago. The temp is controlled by one thermostat in the home. The customer now would like to split the first and second floors. The system has cast iron radiators which will be staying. My thinking is that due to the pressure drop through the radiators, a monoflow system would be the only way to go to achieve the propoer circulation for the zones.
Due to the size of the monoflow piping that would be needed, I'd just like a little input on a more cost effective way to do this. Each radiator has a 1" supply and return piping to it which also can't be changed.

    Any ideas would be helpful.

    that was i...did w/ a few jobs.

I stuck a room sensor on the main floor, ran the system on outdoor reset and then used a Buderus logamatic cintrol to run the whole thing... customer saved 30-35%... and was comfortable. Repiping was kept to a minimum.
