What is it? Top of riser in old bldg in NYC: Steam?

The attached photos show a fitting at the top of a riser about 7 feet above the top floor of a 12 story building in New York City. The riser might be part of the one-pipe steam heating system, or maybe not. The "can" at the top appears to have no openings other than where it connects to the riser, but everything's been painted over. The unseen side is flat like the near side, so it's probably not a gauge.

Riser vent
Gorton #2?

Gorton #2
Thanks, Larry C, that looks like the beast. I guess the top piece has been lost and maybe the hole it connected to has been filled with paint, because my guy says that it's featureless on top. I'll plan on replacing the whole thing with a new high capacity vent.
Thanks again!0 -
That vent tells us
whoever put it there probably knew his business. Replace it with another Gorton #2- nothing else.
Then post a pic of what it looks like on top. It may just be an older version.

Gorton #2.
Generally when I see that configuration, I put a couple of 45 or 90-degree elbows on the riser to keep the vent out of the direct line of fire from the steam.
It makes me feel better.
