programmable thermostats

Hi Carol, We here at Foster plumbing and heating are trying to get a professional opinion on settings for programmable therms. We have our own thoughts on this and things that we have learned in the past but it would be nice to know that we are telling our customers the right answers. The only question is what should be the maximum setback temp or swing?
Does it really save money to set back too far or more that let's say 5 degrees? Your professional input would be great.
Thank you, Jason
