Thanks to Dave Yates for trying to interject some sanity.

I see many European manufacturers are including anti legionella functions to their boilers and controls.

The Buderus rep at AHR showed me how their controls allow elevated temperature every night in the solar/ DHW storage tank to address the legionella potential. I'm also seeing see special "hygenic" storage tanks on the European market. Smaller water capacity, elevated temperatures, etc.

There may be more to the story, than this author discovered?

When the editor called me to review the content you can imagine my reaction(G). I give him credit for at least covering the bacterial amplification issue. I've had more than a few e-mails - all of them firmly opposed to the cheap open-system approach, so we've made significant headway with regards to making folks aware of the issues.

But, there's always the crowd that will let costs over-ride known health risk concerns - What? Me worry?. The folks selling open-systems don't bother me nearly as much as do folks in a percieved position of authority condoning cheap inneficient practices.

Smoke em if ya got em!
