venting 2 pipe steam main

If you get steam to the radiator fast enough & you are happy with the time it takes to heat the room then you may not need an air vent for that line. Air vents aid or help the F&T traps & thermostatic traps get the air out of the steam mains. Pipe arrangements can create favored steam flow. Also, close proximity to the boiler sometimes creates favored flow. Not all steam lines have to be vented.
Wait a second, I reread your question, ... are you suggesting an open nipple at the end of a steam main? Did I read that right? No, you can not have an open pipe at the end of a pressurized steam line regardless of how good your traps are. BAB

venting 2 pipe steam main
Can anyone tell me why you need a vent on the end of a 2 pipe steam main with a dry return, can't you just have a nipple with no vent, like a condensate reciever?
If all the radiator steam traps are working and the f&t is good should'nt I get just air and no steam from the main vent at the end of the dry return? Need someone to enlighten me on this!0
