A Feel Good Story - Any Hocky Fans?
Sometimes it is so nice to see someone doing so well at their chosen profession. And to be so aptly rewarded (although the reward is also one of the greatest challenges)
OK - I'll admit it: I know exactly where I was when "The Miracle on Ice" Occurred. I will never forget it: Being followed by a Russian Cruiser while my US Navy Ship (USS Savannah) was in the Mediterranean....
The ship to ship radio call (which I did not here as I worked in the Engine Room) from our ship to the Russian ship notifying them of the hockey score... Ecstasy... we laughed and partied (as much as we could at sea) all day.
Being a Badger Hockey Fan I have always known who Mark Johnson was... and have followed his carrier.
Mark Johnson is the current coach of the UW-Madison Women s Hockey Team. Won NCAA championships in 2006, and 2007, and came in 2nd place in 2008, and is currently the #1 Team in the nation.
Mark Johnson was just named to coach the Woman's Olympic Hockey team for 2010.
Yes ESPN is carrying the story; and the local Wisconsin Papers are full of all kinds of stories - but I though you'd like some other links to give a perspective on who he is... what other people who play for him see...
So here are two that share that perspective (not to mention give a background for those who don't know).

See the player comments at the end of this one from the current crop of articles in the Madison Papers:

And the ESPN Article.

I hope there are other people who remember - and who are thrilled that Mark Johnson will coach the next US Woman's Olympic Team.
Yes indeed.... "It's a great day for hockey" ("Badger" Bob Johnson).
If anyone wonders ... there is constant talk in Madison about how Mark Johnson should be coaching the men's team. They are doing well too. I say give it a break... Mark has found his niche...
I'm looking forward to following this.

I agree... Glad you saw the game
Unfortunately, no TV reception in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea; so we never saw any of the 80 winter Olympics. But, I'm glad you got to see it.
I agree that college hockey is better to watch than the pro's (I think the same about basketball too - not that I watch much of that).
Woman's sports also tend to be highly entertaining as well. I miss living in the Madison area where I could attend things. I admit that I did not attend that many games - but, having the choice to was important. Now I no longer have that choice (especially for hockey).
