    Are their advantages/disadvantages to a mercury switch vaporstat? I had a new boiler installed in 2007, and it has one of those "old fashioned" mercury switch vaporstats.

    Mercury switches are some of the best and most reliable made. Unfortunately, environmental concerns have made their manufacture near impossible these days.

    I have heard of problems with some non-mercury vaporstats that use mechanical microswitches.
