Gas Smell

I have a Trane 205,000 BTU Model YCD075C3H0BE Roof top heating unit on my building that was installed in 1997. For the past few days I have noticed a slight natural gas smell coming through the ceiling vents just as the unit starts to fire up. The smell goes away after about 30 seconds to a minute, but happens every time it fires up. The smell does seem to be getting stronger each time it starts up. Also, the unit doesn't seem to be working as efficently as it used to. What could be causing this to happen? Any info is appreciated.

Gas smell
Run, don't walk to the phone and call your heating specialist. it is a sure sign of a cracked heat exchanger. You risk CO poisonning!0 -
Not only are you risking CO poisoning with every call for heat, you risk your life and anyone else in the building. Don't be an idiot, to be blunt. STOP USING THE UNIT and call a pro.
