LP gas and compression fittings

....tell me that he needed a new compression ring for a fitting in an LP gas line. 1/2" OD soft copper. He says that "the gas man" told him just to replace the ferrule, and he should be fine.

I told him that standard compression fittings were not approved for LP lines, but he insisted that the "gas man" said it was ok.

I pulled out my national fuel gas code, but cannot find any section that prohibits these fittings. Section 5.6.8.2 states "Tubing joints shall be made with approved gas tubing fittings or be brazed with a material having a melting point in excess of 1000* F. The commentary below it says "The phrase "approved" gas tubing fittings in paragraph 5.6.8.2 means gas tubing fittings that have been approved by the authority having jurisdiction. This category includes flare and compression fittings."

So, was I wrong? I tried to find something from the fitting manufacturer stating that they are approved for gas, but cannot.
