Hywell L404 presstrols

So 2 years back I put in 3 new pressuretrols (3 boilers, one 40 unit apartment complex), switch type (not mercury) and got a call that there was banging. Went over and one was totally shot (boiler shut off on high limit man reset) and 2 were allowing the pressure to get up to 6#, even though all 3 were set just under 2#. How could all 3 go out? Has anyone else had issues with these presstrols? Differential was still working but too much pressure was allowed in all 3.

    pressuretrols gone wild

during our 1 st day's firing of our new boiler, we set the p-trol down as low as it would go. i did not know the importance of the low-pressure gauge, and i was amazed when i happenned to look at the standard gauge. it was at 9.5 psi!! moments later the reset p-trol shut down the system at 10 psi. next thing, i was on the telephone to find if a vaporstat was available locally. there are a lot of bad experiences with that model which you can find with a search. i don't know why the boiler mfgs even bother to ship them with their new boilers. one thing should always be done, set the secondary reset p-trol down to a lower setting than out of the box, as 10 psi was not good for some of our old flange joints.
one thing i would like to try would be the Siemens RWF40 controller i ahve seen described by someone here. it handles pressure control, with multistage capability , and thermostat functions too.--nbc
