I am looking to start live tracking my trucks and was looking for input on units and service from anyone's expeience with these.

P.S. I haven't been on in a while and wanted to wish all of you the most success for the new year.

I believe most trucking firms use a company called Qualcomm. They used to make modems & cell phones but have positioned themselves in this niche. It look to me that the Sears "service" trucks use this because of the big white dome.

I looked at their website and got the impression that they are for larger companys like sears. they don't appear to sell single locating units only. thank you for trying to help.

terra trac ---we have 4 vehicles with them on it they were expensive units --and a monthly fee ---but they are for small companies too

Why not track your workers by there cell phones like parents do to there little kids. verizon has a thing call chaperone that tracks the phone users movements.

We tried the cell phone thing.

It didn't work for us for two main reasons: first you loose the service when the guys go into some cellars and are out of cell phone range, and second because what I really care about is where my van is, not so much where my guy is.
I wanted to keep the guys from using the vans after hours. At night they could leave the work cell phone home and moonlight all over the neighborhood if they wanted to.
The vehicle-mounted GPS straightened all that out.
