location of main vent.

Hello.
I have a 1 pipe steam heating that uses oil fired boiler.
I have a question regarding main vent that i cant find on this board.
I believe i have a main vent that was plugged. I found a pipe with the cap on it, but the location of this is about 3 feet away from my boiler. The cap is on a elbow that starts to drop down towards the floor from ceiling. is this the drop return?
Can it be this clost to my boiler?

It might be

follow the steam pipe from where it leaves the boiler, and if it goes around and then comes back to that capped pipe, that's where the main vent goes.

Measure the length and diameter of the steam main and we can tell you what main vent you need. If there is more than one main, measure both.

it was just odd that most on this forum, their location seem a bit further away. I just wanted to make sure we are on the right pipe.
