multiply length, width height to get cu ft. multiply cu ft by 6 if there is little insulation and single pane glass,by 4.5 avg insulation windows w/storms 4.0 insulated glass and walls this will give you bth heat loss for the room. look at baseboard manufactuers rating for a given size baseboard find 160 degree@1gpm you'll get the btu output of that particular baseboard per foot.divide btu output of the baseboard into btu loss in the room to get number of feet needed add 10% for lots of glass. good luck

Linear Feet Req. Baseboard vs. cu.ft space.
I would like to know the rule of thumb for feet of baseboard heating for the size of the room. Currently I have over 500 sq.ft. 8' ceilings and lots of glass. Only 27 feet of baseboard. Its cold. Thanks.0 -
what size
what size is the bb & @ what temp is it running? Is the 27' the only thing on that zone? Is there any insulation in the walls? Are the elements clean? Is there any carpet, and if so how close does it come up to the bottom of the bb cover? Is this a new problem and has it ever worked correctly? Are the windows old or new?

Instead of \"rules of thumb\"
which may or may not be accurate, do a heat-loss calculation on the room and compare it to the baseboard's ratings. For a free, easy-to-use calc program, click on Resources above, then Heat Loss Calcs to download Slant/Fin's calc program. If you're still using dial-up, order the CD instead as this is a large download.
If the baseboard is up to the task, then look for poor circulation or dust-clogged fins.
