    legal?

I think I know the answer, but can a meter be set up for propane?

I have a guy with a large home, about 12,000 sq ft (with the slightly finished basement). He's going through a lot of propane fuel (yea, I know). We're going to set up these cute run timers on the burners (two boilers) to try to hone in on what the heating system is using. He's got two 160,000 BTU boilers heating the home/DHW, 3 furnaces heating garages and such, and 5 fireplaces (he's not using them though), and cooking stove/range etc. Yea, big house.

We went over to do a re-pipe back in Novemeber (not our job, some warm air company installed the system).

We installed a tekmar set point control on the second boiler. The Buderus 2107 DID have a 242 module, but we yanked it....everytime the DHW called both boilers would fire. We have the set point at 15 degrees for boiler #2 and the system is working great. So, 160,000 is fine down to 15 degrees.

So, the timers (which read in 1/10th of an our) will tell us what's what with the heat DHW side of things.

I could set up run meters on the furnaces as well. The garages are being kept at 45 or so.

    Thanks for any thoughts

    Gary

  • Gary there are

gas meters that are set up for Propane. Do you have Victor division of FW Webb near you? If so they can fix you up with such a meter. Also Ray Murray can do the same.

American Meter Company should have what you want:

    http://www.americanmeter.com/en/diaphragm_meters.html

in particular, w/ pipe threads vs. meter set fittings:

    http://www.americanmeter.com/downloads/EAM-DS3537.pdf

Note that w/ higher density LP vs. 0.6 density NG the max flow (0.5" pressure drop) will be less, (~160 vs. 250 CFH).
