I am bidding a gas steam boiler that only has a 2" supply and no return. My question is do I only pipe the supply with a pipe connecting to the return on the boiler?

supply & no return??
is that an old boiler on a 1-pipe system? if so, that system could be a counterflow, but still needs a connection to the return. as i remember from various mfgs instructions, the supply must tie into the header from the top of the main, with an equalizer and most likely a hartford loop.
check the install manual, and follow their instructions without deviation, or someone else here may have more definite instructions, based on a similar situation. why not post some pix of the present situation for more complete diagnosis?
one bit of advice: include a vaporstat in your bid as too mabny people have had very bad luck with the standard pressuretrols at the low pressures these systems like.most likely you will need some new main vents too.--nbc0
