Gorton vs. Jacobus vents -- what's the difference?

but I don't mean that in a good way. The Jacobus vents have plastic floats in them, which don't last as long. The Gortons are all metal. Go with Gorton.

Put another way, you can get Jacobus vents at Home Depot, but not Gortons. HD just wants everything as cheap as they can get it, and quality is way down the list.

I'm looking online at both Gorton and Jacobus (Maid-o-Mist) air vents for one-pipe steam and they look identical in appearance. Even the sizing charts are similar.

The Jacobus vents are cheaper by far. Are there other differences?

Are the hole sizes the same for both brands?

I'm trying to balance things out with some bigger vents on the larger radiators. I'd like to "experiment" with the cheap vents before committing to the better, more expensive Gorton ones.

    Make sense?

You need "Balancing Steam Systems Using a Venting Capacity Chart" by Gerry Gill & Steve Pajek

    jacobus

the jacobus valves have interchangeable orifaces. you can swich sizes without removing the air valve. sounds like a perfect scenario for your situation. gorton valves are superior quality but i have used jacobus for over forty years without any issues. they are more than adequate.
