Where's the G-8??

here is a link to smith literature. http://www.smithboiler.com/html/litlibrary.asp
The G8 is the top file on the list.
Cost is what you spend , value is what you get.

    Can't locate a Smith G-8

    Help!
Getting estimates for replacing a steam boiler. I’d love to use the Burnham Megasteam, but it’s not currently available with a natural gas option.
From all of you here on the Wall, it seems that the Smith G-8 (available with, I think, the Carlin EZ Gas power burner) would be a good alternative. I’ve specified this as a preference when asking for estimates. However, one just got back to me saying his Smith rep doesn’t know what I’m talking about, that this boiler is only available in commercial sizes.
What gives? Am I asking for the wrong thing here?
    Thanks,
    Patrick

    We've had some trouble

getting G-8 boilers too. I think part of the issue has been that they're moving all their foundry work from Westfield, MA to Boyertown, PA. Also, Carlin EZ-Gas burners were in short supply for a couple months.

But as you found out, Smith doesn't market these boilers well at all. We actually stumbled on them by accident several years ago.

There's another alternative. Slant/Fin recently certified their Intrepid line of oil-fired boilers for use with power gas burners. Unlike Smith, Slant/Fin approved the Midco EC and HeatWise SU burners as well as the EZ-Gas. They are all good burners so take your pick. Here's a link to one we installed recently with the Midco:

    If I were with Smith

I'd market the heck out of these boilers.

The only ones who probably wouldn't buy them are the gas companies, because of their better efficiency.
