Boiler Design

Ammana used to manufacture a hot water heating boiler that sat outside and heated a glycol filled heat exchanger. This heated glycol was then pumped to an indoor hot water heating coil, etc, in a air handler, or through the heating lines to base board coils. Is there a manufacturer out there that makes that type of boiler today?

Gee I hope not. I am curious why one would want such an item though. Aside from noise why put the unit in the weather kind of hard to keep heat loss down on such a unit.
Cost is what you spend , value is what you get.

    Boiler Design

This boiler needs to be placed outside due to the restrictions the local Fire Marshall is placing on the new installation. The boiler operates on propane and is located in the basement. Because it's a basement, the Fire Marshall won't allow it even though the system can be installed with propane sensors, solenoid valve in gas line and an exhaust system and being a commerical application.

    Fuel Rates

What are LP rates and electrical rates around your area. LP is coming down to around 1.50/gal and some have it locked in as high as $2.12.

Electric boilers are viable options, do you have the amps available and what is the BTU load in question?

    Regards,

Oil is not widely used in this area. Natural gas and LP are the two options. Natural gas when there's service available.

    What Size?

What Size Boiler are you looking for? Is this residential or commercial? I believe you would have a number of options from 250MBH and up.

    EK1 Freedom Outdoor Boiler

Energy Kinetics makes a boiler for outdoor installation. It is an EK1 Freedom boiler and it is available in natural gas and LP versions. It is 129,000 BTU/hr with LP but multiple boilers could be installed. See it here:
