    Effikal Flue Damper

Intermittent problem with home heating system, thermostat is calling for heat but the boiler doesn't turn on. I just tapped the flue hood where the Effikal flue damper is installed and the system fired right up. Anyone ever deal with this type of intermittent problem? Should I replace the damper or is the problem elsewhere in the controls?

The Smith boiler I had the issues with had an effikael damper. I have it locked open until I see if there is a better option. Electrical units and flue gases do not go well together. waiting for the Wallies to hash out what the options are myself.
Cost is what you spend , value is what you get.

    Other thing

Tapping on the flue hood could have caused the spill switch to reset, I think this would have made the damper close first then reopen. Sticking dampers are a VERY commom problem, althouth usually first call of the season. If you tap the damper and the ignition starts the prove open switch or it's lever cam isn't closing correctly giving a start circuit to the electronics. If it's under warranty get a new damper, if not the fuel savings payback is not usually there for a new damper and labor so have it removed. DO NOT wire it open, too risky, just replace with vent pipe.

    Effikel

I received a recall notice on Effikel dampers. See you supplier or factory rep about it.

I have had 3 this year

Broken drive shafts on 1-8" and 2-10" units
Why would they use a plastic drive shaft on a flue damper?
I noticed the replacement field units have metal shafts.
