I'll be doing this talk for my friends at the New York Chapter Association of Energy Engineers
Cutting Edge European Approach to Hydronic Heating (It Ain't the Same!)
Dan Holohan has spent time in a lot of European basements. He has also attended the ISH Fair in Frankfurt, Germany nine times, as well at Italy's Mostra Convegno two times. ISH is the largest heating show in the world. It takes place every other year, and always in the same place, Messe Frankfurt, where it sprawls over 2.6 million square feet of floor space. ISH is about five times larger than the biggest ASHRAE show. More than 240,000 heating professionals from all over the world travel to Frankfurt to take part and to learn. When he goes to the Fair, Dan often arranges meetings with European engineers and contractors. He spends several days in the field, visiting job sites and gathering information on how the European approach to hydronic heating differs from what we do in America. The differences, as you will see, are both significant and eye opening.
During his presentation, Dan will be showing us photos of the interesting products on display at the ISH Fair, as well as several jobs that were under construction at the time of his visits. He'll cover such topics as the European use of low-temperature systems and their love of panel radiators. He'll explain the "why" behind their near-manic attention to pressure differential in sizing their systems. He'll also give us the background on Europe's growing movement toward radiant cooling. Finally, he'll explain how the "green" laws have changed the nature of European mechanical engineering since the fall of the Iron Curtain, and why these changes may be heading our way.
Dan's entertaining and anecdotal style has made him one of the most sought-after speakers in the hydronics industry. You're going to feel as if you had traveled to those basements and conference rooms right along with him. This is one meeting you won't want to miss!
When: Tuesday, January 20, 2008 5:30-8:00pm
(sandwiches & networking at 5:30, presentations begin at 6:00)
