New main vent stuck open

either dirt, water-hammering, or excessive pressure has caused dammage to this vent. is it mounted in the protected location, advised here away from an elbow? has the system pressure been below 1.5 psi

as far as the boiler piping goes, showing the landlord the installation instructions, should have convinced him that this boiler has been incorectly installed, and will not last long, or work properly, until it is corrected.

another point to make would be that there would be no warranty on this boiler when it fails so early in its life due to improper piping, which could so easily be rectified.--nbc

    New main vent stuck open

I am helping a friend that rents. Their flat has a new WM SGO-3 that was installed with a header that is only 19" above the water line.

The system uses dry returns. The vent on the return above the boiler keeps getting stuck in the open position, so the boiler runs out of water since the steam eventually exits from the vent.

I am telling the landlord that the boiler needs to be repiped per the WM manual so that there is at least 24-inches to the header.

Can someone confirm that the wet steam is the likely cause of dirt repeated getting a Gorton main vent (the smaller one) stuck in the open position?
