How much soot?

You GOTTA test when you set it up. Every time. Not just when you get the last two radiators installed. Doesn't take long -- just do it!

How much soot?
I opened up my boiler to change the nozzle (another thread) this weekend and was surprised to see some soot. This is the first season for my Megasteam. The question is should there be soot? If so, how much. There wasn't a lot. Just a light coating on the inside surface.0 -
soot
every oil burner produces soot as long as its a light colored soot its ok if its a black fluffy soot then its bad0 -
It is definitely black. Not enough buildup to tell if it's fluffy. I put a different nozzle on and re-adjusted the flame so I'll have to monitor the build-up. But now I know black and fluffy is bad.
Thank you.0 -
How did you adjust it?
Did you adjust it using combustion test instruments?

I wish. I have another thread going explaining my current situation but basically I'm waiting till I get 2 rads installed, and change the nozzle again before I get it tested.0
