Quick Question About Vaporstat

That is the one that I have. It is in PSI, but goes below 1 PSI. Picture is attached.

The Main Setting . . .

are in PSI. The differential is in ounces. I assume that there are vaporstats there the main setting also is in ounces as opposed to psi? To set my vaporstat at 12 ounces for cut out, I have to put the lever halfway between one psi and one-half psi. Are they all made that way?

Sounds like you have a presuretrol, or the wrong model vaporstat. 1 psi is 16 ounces. If you can't go lower than that, you can't set 12 ounces.

On that particular Vaporstat

you can still run it at ounce pressures. The differential setting in ounces makes that possible. You might have to experiment with the Main setting though, but it will work.

A low-pressure gauge would help you determine where you are on the Main scale. We recommend this type of gauge on all Vaporstat installations anyway.

You Might Have

A model of "vaporstat" that runs from 0 to 4 psi such as the L408A1157. The model of vaporstat you need may be the one that runs from 0 to 16 oz/in2, such as the L408A1132. These are the older mercury type units. The last 4 numbers of the model number are important

Do You Have

A one pipe or two pipe steam system?

All too often, the newer 0-4psi "vaporstats" will not work very well when set below 1 1/2psi. They will shut off, but not cycle back on.

When I lowered the pressure, it did sound like the boiler cycled off, when I did not notice it when set at 1 psi, but it did come back on again and I have not noticed it failing to come back on before the t-stat is satisfied.
