shooting for + or - one degree. looking for throwaway type to keep in truck for mechanic who will probably either loose it, break it or steal it after one day !! just to check variable temperatures in rooms to re-locate thermostats. quick recovery a must. hoping to find something fairly accurate at a reduced price. extremely marginal job.

Mr.Young i have a copper thermometer that i use with a few type of sensors for different appalications and i also use a extech hygro/thermometer they are fairly cheap and have a mim max menory and does humidty while keeping track of the recorded hi and low temps .it's a great little tool for many differnt applacations it's responce time is alright but the copper unit is much quicker and probalby under250 bucks while the extech model 445702 is only 40 to 50 bucks ,you can get both a just about any graingers peace and good luck clammy

    economical thermometer

the most economical one might be one with your company name on it, which you give to the home owner when you come by to bid, repair, or maintain the equipment. maybe it might have combined peel'n stick and magnet backing. it would be the gift that keeps on giving!!--nbc
