steam traps & big steam trap like vessel at boiler return

My house has a two pipe steam radiator system vintage 1925.
SDteam trap: My system has about 16 half inch MILVACO steam traps. Each has a diaphram and each has mild corrosion on the valve face and valve seat. Are there any tricks to refacing the seat and valve? Do you recommend replacing the traps, if so with what type.
At the point of condensate return to the boiler, there is an octaganal cast iron vessel teed off the return line..It is about 12 inches high and nine inches across the flats. It has a sight gage that's bottom is roughly at the same level above ground as the top of the boiler sight gage. Two pipes come from the top of thge vessel. One pipe leads to the steam manmifold above the boiler. The other pipe leads upward and turns horizontal to enter the vertical condensate return pipe through a MILVACO steam trap. The trap is installed so that the pipe from the cast iron thging enters the normal intake port of thr trap. The discharge port of the trap enters the condensate return pipe. What is this thing and is it installed correctly
