At the suggestion of some folks here, I replaced my old main vent (a Vent-Rite #35) with a new Gorton #2.
Holy crap is the Gorton bigger!! Bigger holes and more of 'em! I'm posting some side-by-side pics.
I just installed it, so it'll be a day or two before I know whether it's making a difference in getting the rads on that side of the house heated more quickly.
Is it possible to "over-vent" when it comes to mains?

What a site!
Got to love them vents ☺

Same reaction on today's job
where we replaced two Hoffman #4A vents with two Gorton #2s, on a Sarco Vapor system.....
Regarding the 4A: "What a cute little vent....."
Same would apply to the VR #35.
And the results spoke for themselves.
"Steamhead"

In my opinion you can not over vent. The only downside is the cost of the vents. You could ave a tree of six Gorton #2's if you want to pay for them.
I love the name of the Gorton,.. the "Air Eliminator" (Said like the Governator of California)

I agree Norm,
but to a point,, did you ever read Steve`s experience in his Ebook?
Those were on individual rads,, but don`t rule anything out.

I was surprised that I was able to find them online for about $50 a pop. Other sites have the same #2's for $100 or more!

#2'S
50 each does sound like a good price, which site did you buy them from?0 -
Velocity
Especially counter-flow one-pipe may have a problem if the steam velocity builds a wave of condensate in the main. I've seen that wave make a Vaporstat stutter. Not often, but something to watch for. Vent fast, then slow it down if the problem arises.0
