Expansion tank placement

I am installing a trio boiler for a customer and I was discussing the piping diagram that came with the boiler with my Da. This sparked the comment "Do you want people to think you are drinking!" from my Da. THe diagram calls for the expansion tank to be on the return along with the boiler feed. I noticed the Vitodent boilers call for this placement also. What is the way most of you are doing it? Da wants the feed and expansion tank on the header as we do with the other boilers we install.
Cost is what you spend , value is what you get.

I like to put the air removal, ex tank, and fill line first thing off the supply, then the pri pump, then all else. It can all go on he return side, as long as you pump away from the ex-tank / fill PONPC (point of no pressure change).
