Carbon,monoxide safety switch

How would the mfg guarantee it's maintenance? The sensor in my analyzer is only good for so long and is used weekly to bi-weekly when needed. If it was always sniffing, it would not last long. Then there is the issue of liability if it failed. What if the water heater set it off and left them with no heat while they were being poisoned from the water heater? I like the idea, but there is no way to police it. Once properly installed, it is the HO's responsibility to monitor CO and have annual checks & cleanings.

Carbon monoxide safety switch
Has there ever been a carbon monoxide safety switch invented? We have relief valves, vent safety switches, flame rollout switches etc.. Why can't a boiler or furnace be fitted with a gadget that shuts off the fuel if it detects carbon monoxide? This would make sure theres one in the house and the homeowner couldn't tinker with it. So instesd of an alarm the fuel gets shut off. Seems to me it would prevent many deaths and illnesses.0
