Unfortunately, the newer oil burners and the new formulations of heating oil coupled with the higher efficiency boilers or furnaces cannot be reliably set up by eye or sound anymore. In order for you to enjoy trouble free operation you are gonna have to get a knowledgable tech in there with an electronic combustion analyzer to set it up for you and make sure that it matches your heating equipment. And then you really need to have your system checked thouroughly every year to keep it running as efficiently as possible and trouble free as possible. Sorry! But, what you can do is clean the boiler room so the tech can work, find the manuals for your equipment, and be able to give him a written list of issues or whatever history you know of the system. Find a good one, check referrals, and make a friend of him. This site can give you refferals.0
