This boiler replacement has a LONG and storied history.......
This was the initial call we got that lead to us doing our first snowmelt job. It was a cold Saturday in March....Sam , The homeowner had no heat on his 50 year old Bryant Steam boiler. The company that was supposed to get the replacement parts had dropped the ball and he was cold, angry and miserable. He went to the internet...found HH...then us. I went out...got the heat going and also got the snowmelt job as well - nice day! Long story short and fast foward several years. Getting proper burner parts for the old beast became a nightmare. Having just invested a small fortune in the snowmelt system, Sam want to just keep the Old boiler going. I kept it together, but parts kept going...many service calls later, Sam was ready for a new boiler. That was an experience in itself because Burnham was in the middle of swithing vendors that made the gas trains. Glenn Stanton to the rescue!!!! Glenn stayed on top of it and made sure we got everything we needed. We finally did the install in Mid summer. It went together great...we utilized the HUGE 6" header that was already there. This boiler powers an Old Dunham-Bush Varivac vapor system. So, now Sam has 3 Burnham boilers on his property!!!! Mad Dog

I like the piping arrangement to the old header. Is that a little mad dog in the picture?

Thanks Steve.....NOPE...thats a Mad Dog special
Reasons I did that:
1)There was no way in hell I was ripping out a perfectly good 6" steam header replete with Beautiful insulation.
That probably would have added a few thousand more to job as well.
2)To mate up the two tappings with the old header was a matter of less than an inch and I didn't wanna die "trying" to make it work...the drop headers gave me some swing-out room I needed.
3)I dripped each riser for even dryer steam which I wanted because this puppy runs on ounces.
I stopped worrying about what "other" people say about the way I do things MANY years ago. I like to experiment and be unconventional whenever possible. As a life-long Conservationist, I believe it saving what is still good - when possible. Function and practicality are the first priorities for me. If I had to do every install exactly the same, I would get very bored...Clapton said that when Cyndi Lauper wanted him to play the solo on White Room EXACTLY the way he did on the Original Cream studio cut on one of her songs - he refused! Yes, guys, although, I'll let Matt Jr. earn his own nicknames. Thanks for the kind words Steve...means alot coming from you. HappY New Year. Mad Dog
