Had one installed last Jan., Had to replace the Honeywell right away, wasn't working right.

    MegaSteam 396 Short Cycling

    Recently had a MST 396 installed but not very happy with it. System is short cycling and wasting fuel. Service is coming tomorrow to skim it again, second time since installed a month and a half ago. Question is whether skimming is going to stop the short cycling. Also, do the MegaSteam boilers reach their advertised 86%AFUE if the internal baffles are not installed?

    Anything is possible....BUT

    We have almost a dozen Megas out there now. No problems to speak of great boiler! Yes, it will hit those numbers with no problems at all. Who sized it and is it possibly oversized? If that checks out the boiler and system is still dirty and needs extensive cleaning. This could be an installer issue...can you post some pics here? Mad Dog

    Skimming?

    Is this the first time they have been back to skim it since the install? If so, that's more than likely the problem if it is surging. I would also check and make sure the near boiler piping is per the manual. I have had a few customers get confused over the operation of the Hydrolevel Cycle Guard control, they sometimes mistake it's operation for short cycling.
