Help with cleaning oil boiler

Member Posts: 12
I am working on a Weil McLain SGO 5 Steam boiler. The heat exchanger was blocked with a very grainy and wet soot.I did not even need to run the vacuum when brushing it out.
i can not remove the soot between the pins in the heat exchanger.I tried to run the boiler and burn or dry the soot but it smokes up the house.I will be changing the combustion chamber parts in the morning but need a way or chemical to get ou the soot.
Does anyone have any suggestion?
The contractor before me changed the pump and "cleaned it"
Hard to do test with out a hole in the stack. The system also did not have an oil filter and was tied into the bottom of the tank.
He was called back and condemned the boiler and left.
How do you do that to an account that you had for ten years.

Get it freed up with a soot saw then heat it up and keep picking at it till you get it0 -
after using soot saw, get boler hot, take top off and lightly spray down with a water bottle, this will help steam clean junk off. You might have to do this a couple of times, but works great for neglected boiler.0 -
First buy a new seal kit. Second, knock that sucker down and take the sections to your local car wash. Third, rebuild the boiler.0 -
open it up ----use a wet/dry vac make a "dam" hose it out and vacuum the water before it makes a mess ---hey the chambers shot anyway --0 -
I got it freed up and can brush down to the fire chamber. Can't get the junk from between the pins.
I was wondering about a foaming automotive degreaser.
Thanks for the help.
