Flue Gas Adaptation

I have heard that the justification for a Viessmann boilers price has a lot to do with something called "flue gas adaptation," does anyone know what this is? I have a basic understanding, something about modulating air intake and exhaust output in order to maximize efficiency. My real question is about the physics of this. Can someone either explain it to me or point me in the direction of some literature that will explain it. I have read all of Viesmmanns own literature on the subject but none of it has really made any sense.
