Cast Iron boiler with sludge

Looking for ideas for cleaning out sludge from cast iron gas boilers (not steam). Occasionally find one that percolates when firing, but the liquid looks clean. Tried commercial cleaners without too much luck. Anyone try disconnecting the supply and return and pump cleaner around with a spa pump?

Yep,
worked on my old W/M & a few others.
Kinda messy, but it solved the problem.
I used a very, very mild acid then, now I would use TSP, and it takes awhile.
I used a small sub. sump pump, 5 Gal bucket & 2 washing machine hoses, fire the burner to keep it warm, & periodically reverse the hoses.

Cleaning a cast iron boiler
Try to flush out as much as possible with water then add Rhomar's Hydro-Solv 9100 cleaner. It's not an acid so its safe to use and it works better then TSP. You can probably find a distributor by going to www.rhomarwater.com or call 800-543-5975. One gallon will clean up to a 50-gallon system.
