Who makes Siggy's Mass-cons?

you should consider the Ray boiler.

High mass (cast iron), condensing.

HO and longtime lurker here. I read Siggy's recent column in PM concerning the use of high mass modulating/condensing gas boilers with great interest. I'm pretty much set on installing standing cast iron (already have them) with TRV's and an ECM circulator, to replace the oil forced air furnace in my 1911 colonial revival. It seems to me after enough years of reading the posts here that this type of system will live best with our always hot wood stove which currently provides most of the heat we need.

It seems that in my case I would be facing a constant micro-load (sub 10kbtu... mostly the kitchen ell and one bedroom, post insulation) which, from the perspective of avoiding short cycling, a tank of water would better serve than a high power boiler.

The HTP Pheonix is the only piece of equipment that I know of which slots into Siggy's proposed scheme. Of course, the other option would be to use a modcon with a buffer tank, but since I'm starting from scratch, including DWH, his solution could kill all my birds with one stone. Are there other product offerings that he was refering to, or is this a challenge to the industry?

    Anybody?

Well, I guess it's a challenge to the industry then.

Has anyone used the HTP Pheonix yet? I believe I saw photos of one in Hot Rod's shop... how's that working out? My heat loss is only 55k now according to Slant Fin (used to be 99k), so with a min modulation rate of 44kbtu it seems like the low modulation is unnecessarily high which is one reason I was thinking about competitors.

Perhaps I should bag the idea for a small Knight, Munchkin, or TT solo 60 and a buffer tank and an indirect. Any other comments would be appreciated. Thanks.

    micro loads

An Idea, Peerless Purefire 110 modulates down to about 20kbtu's match that up to a Niles, AIC, Smart or Similar indirect tank, pull your small loads off the outer tank of the Indirect tank. Just make sure you use a mixing valve to temper the heating water down if necessary. If you use the optional DHW thermal sensor the boiler will monitor and maintain the tank temperature very accurately. Best of Both worlds. Longer run times for the boiler and a good supply of hot efficient DHW.Triangle Tube has a drawing in their literature for micro loads. Might be helpful.
