removing old valves
Does anyone have any tricks to remove an old steam radiator valve. I've disconnected the radiator all i have left is pipe and valve. I m breaking my back trying to get it off with a pipe wrench with no luck. Any tricks of the trade to get it off i need to replace it. Thanks0 -
Valve
use a cheater on the pipe wrench.... i.e. a piece of pipe or something you use to extend the wrench and give yourself more leverage....
or use some heat... propane or mapp torch applied to the body of the valve in the area of the threads0 -

slice & split
split the body with a plumbers wood chisel or sawzall or grinder . spin off with pair of channelocks. install new valve. remove spud tailpiece same way. DO NOT CUT TOO DEEP . elapsed time twenty minutes. simple if you know how. or call a plumber that does know how.0
