How big of a boiler can I install in Mass?

I'm looking at a bigger job, how many gallons of oil can I burn with my basic burners license here in mass? If I go two smaller boilers, do I get around whatever 'cap' there may be?

Install a few smaller boilers...

Stage and rotate them to make sure they fire about the same time as needed.

The theory is twofold. Have enough on hand to deliver the needed load at any given time (shoulder season being where they'll save the most money)AND have 1 backup (in rotation) to cover 1 boiler failure.

Take the failed boiler off line and do repairs when necessary, but still be able to provide heat and hot water in the event 1 goes down. JMHO..but if you work with 3 400,000 boilers VS. 1 big boiler....you're in. Chris

When you look at your license, there is a spot for restrictions. If you have "00" then your all set, no restrictions on GPH.

In the past there used to be restrictions like under or over 3GPH. I think they've done away with those old restrictions.

If you have anything other than "00" I'd just call up the Dept. of Public Safety and get a new license issued without restrictions.
