Bela Fleck

Angel and I saw Bela Fleck and the Flecktones last night. We had seen them for the first time with Scott last August in Boston and were happily suprised at the talent of this group. We weren't prepared to be suprised again.

Appearing with them was a group called Alash, from Tuva. Tuva sits between Siberia and Mongolia. They specialize in Tuvan thoat singing, basically, each person sings 2 notes at the same time. This was wild, and when the 2 groups were accompanying each other it was fantastic.

What a treat. If you get the chance....

Here is the website for Alash: http://www.alashensemble.com/

    Ghengis Blues

I found this movie very interesting.
It is about a self taught Tuvan singer and his trip to Tuva.
Try this site http://www.fotuva.org/gb/index.html for links to the movie.
I have not seen Bela with the Flecktones but have seen him at Telluride Bluegrass festival. Amazing artist he is.

    Interesting

Before last Friday I had never heard of Tuva. As a lover of music, I was thrilled to have my ears opened to another form. And with Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, it was just an amazing sound.

I saw him with the Newgrass Revival years ago...if you want to hear him play in a quasi-traditional bluegrass setup, check out the Dreadful Snakes.

How do they make those sounds?

    Doesn't sound human...

    I don't know,

But my wife seems to think it's the same sound I make while praying to the porcelain god.
