Megggaa Heat...

#1 I turn off the supply water to the house

#2 I use Lots of heat i.e. electric space heaters or Kerrosine heaters and bring the core temp way up to about 85 F(Kerrosine if no one is staying in the house)because it's not so safe..!!!follow the instructions of the manufacture for the heaters!

#3 I walk away for a day or two depending on how severe the freeze up was ! Go have some Beers..Icefishing...Ski..or whatever is better that battling the unknown in the walls;ceiling;and floors.

#4 Isolate the domestic side of the house so that only the heating system can fill.

#5 listen.. no music now! Is there water running some were in the walls? hopefully not! if so, start looking!

#6 Fix the leaks and Install a "Autodialer freeze alarm"
and maybe SOME Glycol? so this will not happen again.

Good luck hope this helped. Heatmeister.

    frozen loop question

I am heading up to a N.H. frozen house due to no power for 30 hours. Bringing generator with me.
If this 5 zone boiler has frozen loop(s) and has pumps on return side... it might take a long time for heat to trickle up. What works best other than wait for spring. No I do not have a dethawing machine.
I have heard of wall paper steamer trick in the loop bleed down but then I will be air bound. this is plan B.
I really hate to see circ pumps on return sides.

    So Now What

Sounds like this one is for all those guys that "just don't like glycol".
