steam boilers

near the boiler is what counts.

The person who knows how the pipes should go is invaluable.

One gets what one pays for.

A box of fire under a box of water going to steam is GREAT, only if the steam goes where it is wanted.

I guess they called those guys fitters for a reason.

Who makes the most \"idiot proof\" steam boiler

What company makes the most "idiot proof," easy-to-install steam boiler?

My understanding is that older steam boilers were taller and had a bigger "steam chest," which gave the steam a chance to dry out before making its way up through the main and to the radiators (in a one-pipe system).

Now that I'm having to get all my near-boiler piping re-done on my Utica boiler (because of wet steam), it's got me wondering if there's a steam boiler on the market that's built more like the older ones and doesn't require a drop header, equalizer, etc.

Mostly just curious. Not necessarily ready to replace my Utica boiler, as its only about 12 years old.

    Idiot Proof- My Quote:

"R&D never ceases. They will always come out with a better idiot".

You may seek, "better design", "more intuitive", "better engineering"... Idiot-proof does not exist.

All that you cite, dropped header, equalizer, etc. are all essential parts of the boiler. They would ship with the boiler if they could, because that is how boilers are rated.

The riser piping off the boiler, beyond the tapping sizes, is entirely up to the installer. Height is height and that is "Provided by the Customer". If they are stingy with that commodity, one must take action, which is where your dropped header becomes a necessity rather than a nicety.

This is why one can take the Best Boiler Made and really mess it up with what is attached to it.

Others I am sure will have more to say. That is my $0.02.

    2 cents also

I'm with you Fred. Burnham Megasteam. But someone screwing up that installation would be throwing away a little more money.

And Lord knows the installation can be screwed up!
