Thank you for the info.
1. I checked the piping as suggested by the manuifacturer and is not done correct. The boiler has two 2" outlets for the steam and the contractor installed only one...
2. How do I check the vents if they are the proper size? As I said the main steam supply is 2".
Again thank you for your responses

Water hammer in last steam radiator
I am a homeowner and have a gas-fired steam boiler recently replaced. My heating system is a one-pipe steam with wet return. The boiler output is 120,000 Btu/hr and a contractor recently installed it. I added all the radiators in the house and come up with a required heat of about 50,000 Btu/Hr. Obviously the boiler is oversized. The main steam pipe is 2" and is making a loop in the basement from where all the 1st floor steam radiators are connected. The last radiator on the loop is making a banging noise but not all the times. I checked the Hartford loop and the contractor install it correctly. Anybody has any idea what can it be? Any help will be appreciated. The banging noise, especially in the middle of the night is awful...0 -
excessive radiator banging
check your pressure-it should be less than 16 ounces-especially in your case.
check your main air vents-are they working, and of adequate size?
has your piping on the new boiler been done as specified by the mfg? send pix if not sure.
other reasons for banging could be due to dirty water in the boiler as a result of the new pipework.did the installer do any cleaning? dan's book lost art of steaming from here will enable to do most of this yourself.--nbc0 -
vents
try the biggest good quality main air vents you can find first, to get all the air out of the mains asap. protect them from watter-hammer-see "the lost art of steam heating" available here.gorton and hoffman are the two top dogs. gorton has more speed of venting which is better.
low pressure in ounces, oddly enough helps a vent do its job faster.--nbc0
